decided that since I have some money ($1300) in my bank account...I can afford to go ahead and give this a shot while I look for work (and still be able to do it when I do work as supplimental income)
Anyone ever done this before and give me some good advice?

You talking about undercover "mystery shopper" that gives marks out of ten for personal appearance, friendliness etc? My mum used to do it and always advised her trainees to break cover and take a bribe ... that way the job really pays!!
Seriously though she used to get people bits of work ... the important thing is e.g. when buying a car and they ask what colour the old one was don't say something stupid like "brown" when they don't make cars of that make in yukky brown. Say red. And be completely plausible at all times. Bored staff are on the lookout for mystery shoppers!!
